Pimlico Housekeepers and Some Interesting Facts about Pimlico
For many centuries the Pimlico area was a long way away from what it looks like now. Up to the beginning of the 19th century, Pimlico was a marshy land. Only in 1825, did Lord Grosvenor contract T Cubitt to organise land reclamation and gradual development. In 1953 the area was sold by the 2nd Duke of Westminister – this was part of the Grosvenor Estate. For a long period of time, the area had social housing as well (Peabody).
Pimlico was connected to the underground in the 1970s. Just a short walk away from the Pimlico underground station is Tate Gallery.
